Bio

Dr. Andrew Sahawneh is a Mobile, Alabama native whose passion for eye care has driven a career defined by clinical excellence and compassionate patient education. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology and a postgraduate degree in Biochemistry from the University of South Alabama before completing his Doctor of Optometry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry in 2018, graduating with consistent recognition on the Dean's List. He further distinguished himself through a competitive optometric residency at the Chinle Indian Health Service Hospital on the Navajo Reservation in Chinle, Arizona, where he developed specialized expertise in the advanced management of glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.

Dr. Sahawneh offers urgent and emergent eye care, as well as comprehensive routine exams, for patients of all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics. His clinical focus includes pediatric vision care, specialty contact lenses, and myopia management. He is highly skilled in diagnosing, treating, and managing a broad spectrum of ocular diseases, with particular expertise in advanced dry eye treatment, glaucoma management, and monitoring sight-threatening retinal conditions such as age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. His practice is committed to delivering the most current, evidence-based solutions for patients with complex or unique vision needs.

What sets Dr. Sahawneh apart is his patient-first philosophy: he takes the time to review all findings directly with each patient, ensuring they fully understand their vision health and feel empowered to make informed decisions about their care. He serves as Treasurer of the West Florida Optometric Association, reflecting his commitment to advancing the profession and his local optometric community.

Dr. Sahawneh met his wife, Dr. Hannah Sahawneh, while they were both students at UAB. He enjoys spending time with family, cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide, relaxing on the Gulf Coast's beaches, and indulging in the region's renowned seafood.
