Dr. Andrew Sahawneh, a Mobile, Alabama native, pursued his passion for eye care after graduating from Murphy High School and earning his bachelor's in biology and a postgraduate in biochemistry from the University of South Alabama. He graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry in 2018, consistently earning Dean's List recognition. He further honed his expertise through an intensive optometric residency at the Chinle Indian Health Service hospital in Chinle, Arizona, on the Navajo Reservation, specializing in the advanced management of glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.
Dr. Sahawneh provides urgent and emergent eye exams, as well as routine comprehensive eye exams for patients of all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics. His particular focus is on pediatric vision care, specialty contact lenses, and myopia management. His "teacher's heart" approach to patient care emphasizes clear and thorough communication. He reviews all test results with each patient, ensuring they fully understand their vision and eye health to make informed decisions about their care. He is passionate about diagnosing, treating, and managing a wide range of ocular diseases, offering specialized care in advanced dry eye treatment, glaucoma management, and monitoring advanced retinal diseases such as age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. His practice is distinguished by its commitment to providing the latest, cutting-edge solutions for all patients with unique vision needs.
A husband and father, Dr. Sahawneh, met his wife, Dr. Hannah Sahawneh, at UAB in Birmingham. In his free time, he enjoys cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide, relaxing on Florida beaches, and savoring the Gulf Coast's incredible seafood.
