Bio
Dr. Zackary Elkins is a native of Leeds, Alabama. He attended Huntingdon College as a scholarship football player and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Cell Biology, lettering all four years for his talent on the gridiron. Driven by a thirst for knowledge and a desire to help others, he decided to pursue a career in optometry.
Dr. Elkins continued his education at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, where he earned his Doctor of Optometry degree. Additionally, he completed his surgical procedure certifications from Northern State University College of Optometry, further expanding his expertise in the field. During his time at UAB, he developed a passion for primary and pediatric optometric care and ocular diseases, including macular degeneration, glaucoma, and anterior segment abnormalities.
Dr. Elkins has also developed a passion for fitting specialty scleral lenses. These particularly benefit patients who struggle with keratoconus, dry eye disorder, and other corneal diseases.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Elkins is a devoted fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide football and basketball teams and the Green Bay Packers football team. He enjoys spending quality time with his wife, Haley Elkins, and their two children. In his leisure time, Dr. Elkins finds solace in fishing and spending time with friends at sporting events.
